Project overview

About this project

This wood deck runs along the back of a single-story home and connects two exterior doors to the patio and garden.

Two stairways with railings lead down to the concrete patio, and lattice skirting closes off the space under the deck.

The whole deck, railings and stairs were finished in a warm red stain that protects the wood and suits the house.

Two stairways

Easy access from both back doors.

Railings

Matching wood railings on the deck and stairs.

Lattice skirting

Clean finish under the deck.

Warm stain

Protective stain on every surface.

How we work

How a project like this comes together

The same five steps run every Quartz job, from the first visit to the final walkthrough. One team designs, permits and builds it.

  1. Site visit

We check the existing deck or yard, grade, access and how the deck connects to the house.

  2. Design and materials

Size, height, stairs, railings and decking material are chosen.

  3. Permits

Where the city requires one, we handle the deck permit.

  4. Framing

Footings, posts, beams and joists are set level and secured.

  5. Decking, stairs and railings

Boards, stairs and railings are installed and finished, then we walk the deck with you.

Questions & answers

Decks & balconies: common questions

Planning something similar? These are the questions homeowners ask us most. Anything else, just call.

(650) 749-7436
Do I need a permit for a deck?

It depends on the deck's height, size and how it attaches to the house. We check your city's rules and handle the permit when one is needed.

Wood or composite decking?

Wood costs less up front and can be stained; composite needs less upkeep. We walk through both on a site visit.

Can you repair or rebuild an existing deck?

Yes. We inspect the framing and footings and tell you whether a repair or a rebuild makes more sense.

Do you build stairs and railings?

Yes. Stairs and railings are built to code and to match the deck.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. We visit your home and give you a written estimate.
