Patio Cover Permits: When You Need One and When You Don’t (San Jose)
Does a patio cover need a permit in San Jose? How the small-structure exemption works, what the building code requires, and how to check…
Kitchens · Completed project
Deep green shaker cabinets with brass pulls, a built-in breakfast nook, and the same color carried into a new powder room and laundry.
Project overview
Deep green shaker cabinets with brass bar pulls wrap this kitchen under a row of windows. White quartz counters, a marble hexagon backsplash, a stainless chimney hood with a pot filler and a stainless range make up the main cooking wall.
At one end, a built-in banquette in the same green cabinetry wraps a white quartz table on a brass base, under a glass globe chandelier. Tall green cabinets house the built-in refrigerator, a wall oven and a microwave, with large white floor tile throughout.
The project also includes a powder room with botanical wallpaper, a green accent wall and a live-edge wood shelf holding a vessel sink, plus a laundry room with stacked washer and dryer, green cabinets and a utility sink. Patterned tile faces the risers of the steps between rooms.

How we work
The same five steps run every Quartz job, from the first visit to the final walkthrough. One team designs, permits and builds it.
We measure the kitchen, look at plumbing, gas and electrical, and plan the layout with you.
Cabinets, countertops, backsplash, appliances, sink and lighting are chosen before work starts.
Electrical, plumbing and any wall changes are permitted through the city.
The old kitchen comes out; plumbing, gas and electrical are updated and inspected.
Cabinets, counters, backsplash and appliances go in, and we walk the finished kitchen with you.
