Most Popular Master Bathroom Upgrades in San Jose 2025
- Walk-in shower (no curb/threshold): Most requested upgrade — a curbless walk-in shower with a linear drain or zero-threshold entry; 36″×60″ minimum, 48″×60″ comfortable, 60″×60″+ ideal for couples
- Double vanity: His-and-hers sink vanity, typically 60″–72″ wide; undermount sinks; quartz or marble countertop
- Soaking tub: Freestanding soaking tubs (not whirlpool/jetted) are the 2024–2025 trend — jetted tubs are falling out of favor due to maintenance and cleaning difficulties
- Heated floors (radiant): Electric radiant heating mat under tile — one of the highest-satisfaction upgrades in Bay Area master baths; adds $2,500–$5,000 to project cost
- Large-format tile (24″×24″ or 24″×48″): Fewer grout lines = cleaner look and less maintenance; popular for both floor and shower wall in San Jose luxury baths
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a master bathroom remodel increase home value in San Jose? A master bathroom remodel in San Jose typically returns 55–70% of cost in added home value. On a $55,000 remodel, expect $30,000–$38,000 in added appraised value. However, the real benefit is time-on-market — updated master baths dramatically improve buyer appeal and can be the deciding factor in multiple-offer situations, which are common in San Jose’s competitive market.
How long does a master bathroom remodel take in San Jose? A full master bathroom remodel takes 6–12 weeks from permit approval to punch-list completion. Permit processing in San Jose adds 3–5 weeks before construction begins (unless over-the-counter permits apply for cosmetic work). The countertop fabrication lead time (7–14 days after cabinet install) is usually on the critical path.
