Concrete Flooring Cost Guide for San Jose 2025

Concrete Floor TypeCost Per Sq FtBest Application
Epoxy coating (solid color)$3 – $5Garage floors, utility areas, workshops
Epoxy coating (flake or metallic)$5 – $8Upscale garages, commercial spaces, ADU floors
Acid stain (patina look)$4 – $8Interior slabs, retail, open-concept homes
Water-based stain (more color options)$3 – $7Interior residential, more color control than acid stain
Polished concrete (grinding + densifier)$8 – $15Modern homes, commercial, ADUs — high-gloss durable finish
Stamped concrete (patio/pool deck)$12 – $25Outdoor patios, pool decks, driveways — mimics stone/brick/tile
Microtoppings (self-leveling overlay)$10 – $18Applied over existing slab to hide cracks; very thin and smooth

Polished vs Epoxy vs Stained — Which Is Best?

  • Polished concrete: Ground and honed with progressively finer diamond pads, then densified with a penetrating chemical hardener. The concrete itself is refined — not coated. Will never peel, chip, or delaminate. Very durable but slippery when wet unless anti-slip treatment is applied. Best for modern, open-plan homes and ADUs
  • Epoxy coating: A resin coating bonded to the concrete surface. Can chip or delaminate over time in high-traffic or outdoor areas. Best for garages (excellent chemical resistance to oil and automotive fluids). Much less expensive than polished concrete for garage applications
  • Stained concrete: Acid or water-based stain reacts with the concrete surface (or sits on top of it) to add color. Does not change the texture of the surface. Must be sealed to protect the stain. Creates a natural, variegated appearance that many homeowners prefer to a perfectly uniform floor
